Why Two-Pass Palette

Single-pass GIF generation produces banding and poor color reproduction because it doesn't optimize the color palette for the specific frames. This tool uses a two-pass approach: first it analyzes the clip and generates an optimized color palette, then it encodes the GIF using that palette. The result is dramatically better quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

GIF is an uncompressed format — each frame stores full color data. A 10-second, 480px-wide GIF at 10fps can easily reach 50-100MB. Longer clips produce impractically large files and risk crashing the browser tab due to memory limits.

GIFs above 15fps rarely look noticeably smoother but always produce significantly larger files. 10fps is the sweet spot for web-quality GIFs.
