Flashcard Maker — Free Online Study Tool
Create digital flashcards, study with flip cards, test yourself with quizzes, and master any subject using spaced repetition. No sign-up, no ads, everything stays on your device. 100% client-side — nothing leaves your browser.
How to Use the Flashcard Maker
- Create a deck — click "New Deck" and give it a name, or load a starter template.
- Add cards — enter front (term/question) and back (definition/answer) manually, or use bulk paste to import many cards at once.
- Study in Flip mode — click or tap a card to flip it. Mark cards as "Known" or "Still Learning" to track your progress.
- Test with Quiz mode — the tool auto-generates multiple-choice questions from your deck. No AI or server needed.
- Master with Spaced Repetition — the SM-2 algorithm (same as Anki) schedules reviews at optimal intervals for long-term retention.
- Export or print — download your deck as CSV or Anki-format text. Print double-sided flashcard sheets directly from your browser.
Why Use This Flashcard Maker
Most free flashcard tools have a catch — ads, account requirements, or paywalled features like spaced repetition. This tool gives you everything: unlimited decks, flip-mode studying, auto-generated quizzes, and SM-2 spaced repetition, all 100% free with no sign-up.
Decks are saved automatically in your browser's local storage, so your cards persist between visits without a server. You can export your data anytime as CSV or Anki-format text. Share a deck instantly by generating a shareable link — the deck is encoded directly in the URL, no backend needed.
The bulk paste import is the fastest way to build a deck: just copy-paste your terms and definitions (one per line, separated by colon or tab) and they're all added in seconds. Built-in starter templates give you a quick foundation for languages, sciences, history, and test prep.
Frequently Asked Questions
Click "New Deck" to create a deck, then add cards by typing a term and definition. You can also paste many cards at once using the bulk import (separate front and back with a colon or tab). No sign-up, no credit card — everything runs in your browser.
Spaced repetition is a learning technique that schedules card reviews at increasing intervals based on how well you remember each card. This tool implements the SM-2 algorithm (the same one used by Anki). After you rate your recall (Again, Hard, Good, Easy), the algorithm calculates the optimal time to show you that card again. Cards you find difficult appear sooner; cards you know well appear less frequently.
You can import flashcards from any source that exports to CSV or tab-separated text (including Quizlet and Anki). Use the CSV import button in the Create tab, or paste tab-separated data into the bulk import field. For Anki, you can also export from this tool in Anki-compatible format.
Yes. All your decks and cards are saved to your browser's local storage. They persist between visits automatically. Your data never leaves your device — there's no server, no account, and no upload. To transfer decks between browsers or devices, use the Export CSV feature.
Yes. Click the "Print" button in the toolbar to open a print-friendly view with fronts on one page and backs on the following page — perfect for double-sided printing. The cards are laid out in a grid that you can cut into individual flashcards.
Quiz mode generates multiple-choice questions using only your deck's own cards. For each card, three wrong answers are randomly selected from other cards in the same deck. No AI, no API calls — it's all generated client-side. You need at least 4 cards in your deck to start a quiz.
