How to Use the Pace Converter

  1. Enter your pace — input min/km, min/mile, or speed in MPH/KPH.
  2. Convert automatically — see all equivalent values instantly.
  3. Predict race times — see estimated finish times for common race distances.
  4. View pace zones — understand your training intensity zones.

Understanding Running Pace

Pace is the inverse of speed — it measures time per distance rather than distance per time. Runners typically track pace in minutes per kilometer (min/km) or minutes per mile (min/mile). The conversion factor is 1 mile = 1.60934 km.

Training in different pace zones builds different fitness qualities. Easy runs (Z2) build aerobic base, tempo runs (Z3) improve lactate threshold, and intervals (Z4-Z5) boost VO2 max.

Frequently Asked Questions

Multiply your min/km pace by 1.60934. For example, 5:00/km = 8:03/mile. This calculator does it automatically.

Predictions use Riegel's formula and are estimates based on your current fitness. Actual times depend on terrain, weather, training, and race-day conditions. They're useful for goal setting and pacing strategy.

Most training (80%) should be in Z2 (easy). The remaining 20% can be split between tempo (Z3) and intervals (Z4-Z5). This "polarized" approach is backed by research for optimal performance gains.
